The purpose of a lector is to deliver the word of God in Masses. There is a separate group of lectors for the weekday masses. For weekday lectors, we have five lectors and they read one day per week. People who cannot serve on weekdays are scheduled only for the weekends and holy days.

There are approximately twenty-five lectors for the weekend Masses, so they serve about once a month. For weekdays, we use four lectors and they serve for one week at a time.

To be a lector, a person needs to have a clear speaking voice and be willing to practice the readings so they will be familiar with the names and pronunciations. They should have a good understanding of what they are proclaiming and be willing to come to training.
