The purpose of a lector is to deliver the word of God in Masses. There is a separate group of lectors for the weekday masses. People who cannot serve on weekdays are scheduled only for the weekends and holy days.

There are approximately twenty-five lectors for the weekend Masses, so they serve about once a month. For weekdays, we use four lectors and they serve for one week at a time.

To be a lector, a person needs to have a clear speaking voice and be willing to practice the readings so they will be familiar with the names and pronunciations. They should have a good understanding of what they are proclaiming and be willing to come to training.

If you are interested, please call the Parish office at (504) 393-2334 and give them your name and phone number and you will be called.
