Red, White, and You! Information

The Red, White, and You Gala is scheduled for Saturday, April 17, in the Tower on the St. Andrew campus. In addition to the old favorites–Tuition Raffle, Class Creations, and Lucky Stars–there will also be an Elimination Raffle (last ticket drawn wins $5000). In addition to Class Creations, other items to be auctioned include weekend trips, camps, and jewelry.

Music will be provided by the Paragon Band.

DIVERSITY MINISTRY

In response to Archbishop Hughes’ call for Racial Harmony, St. Andrew the Apostle’s Parish Council created a Diversity Ministry. The purpose of the ministry is to bring all people of faith together to begin the process of understanding that we are all children of God and to create a parish inclusive of all races, cultures, ages and disabilities. This ministry,comprised of various volunteers throughout the parish, selected various months in which to highlight the vast cultural diversity that we share here at St. Andrew. We recently celebrated our diverse Hispanic culture centered around Our Lady of Guadalupe. In the spring, we will be highlighting our rich Asian culture. On January 31, we celebrated our diverse African American Culture centered around St. Peter Claver, Patron Saint of African Americans.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION – 2010

Students entering the 11th grade in the fall of 2010 who have attended the Parish School of Religion or a Catholic High School for 9th and 10th grade are eligible to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. There will be an informational meeting for candidates and their parents on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. At this meeting you will be given an overview of the Confirmation Program and the requirements. Registration will not be accepted without a copy of your child’s Baptismal Certificate. The fee is $40.00 perstudent. For further information please call the Religious Ed Office at 393-0140 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE

St. Andrew the Apostle School will hold its annual open house on Wednesday, January 20th, starting at 6:30 pm. The Open House presentation will begin promptly at 6:30 pm in the church with tours to follow. All prospective students, current students, and parents are welcome.

If you are not able to attend the Open House please call the school office at 504-394-4171 to arrange a tour.

LENTEN SCHEDULE – (see flyer)

ADORATION AND STATIONS OF THE CROSS – February 19, 26, March 5, 12, 19, 26; Adoration at 7:00 PM followed by Stations of the Cross 7:30 PM

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL #9107 FISH FRY – KC’s hosting their annual Lenten Fish Fry’s at Cafe Archer starting February 19th. Plates of fried fish and fried shrimp will be offered for $8 per plate. Included are french fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. Gumbo will be $3. Each week a special dish will be offered as well. White beans with shrimp on February 19 and March 19. Jambalaya and fettuccine will be offered on other dates. Beverages will be offered for purchase as well as desserts. Fish Fry’s will also be held on Feb. 26, Mar 12, 19 and 26. Take out orders will be available at 4:30 pm. Dine in hours 5:00 pm till 8:00 pm. Please come out and support our KC’s and all the wonderful things they do for our church parish and the community. LENTEN MISSION – given by Deacon Harold Vincent – March 8 , 9, & 10 – 7:00 PM in the church. The theme will be “Blessed are you”. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered on Wednesday, March 10th. (Lenten Mission Flyer)

PALM SUNDAY - Masses – Saturday, March 27 – Vigil 4:30 PM; Sunday, March 28 – Regular Mass Schedule; Palm Sunday procession beginning at 9:15 AM.

GOOD FRIDAY OF THE LORD’S PASSION – April 2 – 3:00 pm; Stations of the Cross – 7:30 PM; No Morning mass - Divine Mercy Novena begins

HOLY SATURDAY - April 3 Vigil Mass – 8:00 PM only; No morning mass and no reconciliation

EASTER SUNDAY – April 4 – 8:00, 9:30, & 11:00 AM masses; No evening mass

ANNUAL PARISH CAMPING TRIP – hosted by Family Life will be March 5-7, 2010, at the Little Black Creek Waterpark in Lumberton, Mississippi. Accommodations include cabins, RV sites and primitive (tent) campsites. Please contact Paul Messina at 366-4529 for additional information. (see flyer)

SCRIPTURE STUDY – JAN 13 & 14

St. Andrew will continue the Study in the Footprints of God series with the lesson entitled Mary, Mother of God. The study will begin on January 13 at 7:30 pm in the church and January 14 at 9:30 am in the SANYO building. The questions have been revised so they are more manageable each week. The cost will be $8.00 and pre-registration is requested. Please call Religious Ed or the rectory to register.
