FALL ACTIVITIES

SCRIPTURE STUDY – Classes will resume on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 7:30 PM in the church and Thursday, September 9, 2010, at 9:30 AM in the SANYO building. We will be studying The Footprints of God series “Jesus – The Word Became Flesh”. This is a DVD series with questions for small group discussion. To register for this class call the Religious Education office.

CONFIRMATION NEWS – All students preparing to receive Confirmation on October 13, 2010 must attend the Confirmation Retreat scheduled for October 3, 2010 beginning at 9:00 AM in the Tower/Gym.

REGISTRATION FOR PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION CLASSES – currently going on. Registration forms can be found in the back of church or call (393-0140) the Religious Education Office between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Forms should be dropped off or mailed to the Religious Education Office at 3103 Eton St., New Orleans, LA 70131.

The RCIA (Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults) process will resume meeting in September. Adults interested in becoming Catholic are prepared for baptism through this process. If someone you know is interested in becoming a Catholic or learning more about what the Catholic faith teaches, please contact the Religious Education office. Parishioners seeking to learn more about the teachings of the Church may find working with the RCIA team an excellent way to accomplish this goal.

CONFIRMATION INTERVIEWS

Confirmation interviews will be held during the month of June. Information on these interviews will be mailed out to the candidates. Please contact the Religious Education office if you have any questions. The Religious Education office will be closed during the month of July.

FIRST COMMUNION

Over fifty children from our parish will be receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time on Saturday, April 24th, at 10:00 am in the church. Please keep our children in your prayers!

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION – 2010

Students entering the 11th grade in the fall of 2010 who have attended the Parish School of Religion or a Catholic High School for 9th and 10th grade are eligible to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. There will be an informational meeting for candidates and their parents on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. At this meeting you will be given an overview of the Confirmation Program and the requirements. Registration will not be accepted without a copy of your child’s Baptismal Certificate. The fee is $40.00 perstudent. For further information please call the Religious Ed Office at 393-0140 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

SCRIPTURE STUDY – JAN 13 & 14

St. Andrew will continue the Study in the Footprints of God series with the lesson entitled Mary, Mother of God. The study will begin on January 13 at 7:30 pm in the church and January 14 at 9:30 am in the SANYO building. The questions have been revised so they are more manageable each week. The cost will be $8.00 and pre-registration is requested. Please call Religious Ed or the rectory to register.

ADVENT MISSION – NOV 30 & DEC 1

Let us all join together to enter the season of Advent by attending the Advent Mission on Monday, November 30 and Tuesday, December 1, at 7:00 PM in the church. The theme of the mission this year is “A Season of Hope and Anticipation” and will be given by Deacon Johnny Walker. Priests will be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday, December 1.

FIRST RECONCILIATION PARENT MEETING – NOVEMBER 3RD

There will be a meeting for parents of children who will be preparing for their 1st Reconciliation at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3.

CONFIRMATION CELEBRATION!!

Archbishop Gregory Aymond celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation with sixty-one of St. Andrew Parish’s young adults and their sponsors on Tuesday evening, October 20th. During his homily, Archbishop Aymond encouraged each of the candidates to allow the Holy Spirit to enter into their lives and to lead them along their spiritual journey. Thanks to all who participated in making this such a wonderful celebration for our newly confirmed youth! (See pictures)

CONFIRMATION – OCT 20th

Sixty-two of our young adults will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation with Archbishop Gregory Aymond on Tuesday, October 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the church. All parishioners are invited to attend this mass and the reception following in the cafeteria. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will be with each of our cadidates during this special time in their spiritual life.

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION

Confirmation candidates along with their sponsors participated in a morning of reflection on Saturday, September 26. During this time, sixty-two of our young adults were preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation by focusing on the Holy Spirit and understanding the roll of the Holy Spirit in their lives. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated with Archbishop Alfred Hughes on Tuesday, October 20th, at 7:00 pm in the church. We ask that all parishioners pray that the Holy Spirit will be with all of our candidates during this very special time in their spiritual life. Everyone is welcome to attend the mass and reception that follows in the cafeteria.

OTHER RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Just a reminder! Other RE programs that are still ongoing : Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), Bible Study, Liturgy of the Word for children in first through fourth grade at 9:30 am mass on Sunday , and the Pre-School of Religion on Sundays during 9:30 am mass. The parish is still accepting students who do not attend Catholic schools and would like to participate in the Religious Education Program.
