Diversity Ministry – invites all parishioners to the celebration of African American Diversity Weekend, January 28th and 29th as we celebrate and honor Venerable Henriette Delille, a descendant of slaves of old New Orleans and one of the founders of Sisters of the Holy Family. The celebration will be highlighted by a presentation at the 9:30 am mass, followed by a red beans and rice and sweet potato brunch in the cafeteria. We encourage each of you to attend and bring your families.

Algiers Food Bank in Need Again – The food bank sponsored by United Churches of Algiers is again in need of food for the poor and needy of Algiers. Donations of food are off sharply and the food bank shelves are low. Please consider bringing a non-perishable food item each Sunday to Mass or any week day and placing it in the box in the church lobby. Peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, canned meats, tuna, cereal, and powdered milk are in special demand. Also remember that any money you place in the envelopes marked “Poor Box” is given each month to charitable organizations serving the poor, elderly, and homeless. As always, the Community Action committee thanks you for your continued support and prayers.

The Parish Mass Book for the 2012 year is now open. Parishioners who wish to have masses said for their loved ones may come to the rectory. Masses will be honored on a first come first serve basis. Only one intention may be taken for masses except for the 4:30 Saturday Vigil Mass and the 11:00 Sunday Mass. The donation is $5.00 per mass, per intention. Requests for the Sanctuary Candle will also be taken. The donation for the Candle is $10.00.

ST. ANDREW THE APOSTLE PARISH NEEDS YOU!!! The Pastoral Council last hosted a special Stewardship Weekend in October 2010. Many of the ministries had booths with information regarding their various activities. Each ministry spent time with parishioners discussing the purpose of their ministries and encouraging parishioners to become involved in this special parish. It’s no too late if you were unable to attend this ministry fair! Information packets regarding all of the ministries can be found in the back of the church or in the rectory. You can sign up for one or more of our ministries by turning in the volunteer sheet either at mass or to the rectory. We need all of our parishioners to consider sharing some of your time, talent and treasures to keep St. Andrew the Apostle Parish the best it can be! Pictures of “Stewardship Weekend” can be found on the home page of this website under Photos – Stewardship 2010.

DIVERSITY MINISTRY - The purpose of the diversity ministry is to bring all people of faith together to begin the process of understanding that we are all children of God and to create a parish inclusive of all races, cultures, ages and disabilities. At present, we are planning three functions this fiscal year, which includes a Diversity mass, followed by a luncheon. Our events are scheduled for October (we honor our Asian parishioners), December (we honor our Latin American parishioners) , and January (we honor our African American parishioners.) We really need your help. If you could give us just an hour of your time to spend on these projects, we would appreciate it. If you can assist, please call Jerry Fiegel at 433-2661 or Darlene Thomas at 398-0056 or call the Parish Rectory

Congratulations to our newly elected Pastoral Council Members: KEN CONRAD, JORGE CONTRERAS, and DEBRA GUIDROZ. Ken and Debra will be serving three year terms and Jorge will be serving a two year term. Thank you to all who ran for these positions and for all of our parishioners who voted. The Pastoral Council is very important because its purpose is to serve as a planning and advisory board to the Pastor and to aid in serving the needs of the parish. The Council shares in the decision making process by assisting the Pastor in determining and evaluating the parish vision, mission, goals and objectives that improve the quality of life in the community. If you have any questions or suggestions for our parish, please feel free to contact any of the current Pastoral Council Members. (A list of members can be found on the website under Ministries/Pastoral Council.)
