DIVERSITY MINISTRY NEEDS HELPERS!

The purpose of the diversity ministry is to bring all people of faith together to begin the process of understanding that we are all children of God and to create a parish inclusive of all races, cultures, ages and disabilities. At present, we are planning three functions this fiscal year, which includes a Diversity mass, followed by a luncheon. Our events are scheduled for October (we honor our Asian parishioners), December (we honor our Latin American parishioners) , and January (we honor our African American parishioners.) We really need your help. If you could give us just an hour of your time to spend on these projects, we would appreciate it. Our next planning meeting is scheduled for August 26th at 7:00 PM in the Rectory Conference Room. If you can assist, please call Jerry Fiegel at 433-2661 or Darlene Thomas at 398-0056 or call the Parish Rectory.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING – The Archdiocese now requires anyone who meets with children on any property of the Archdiocese to participate in a Safe Environment Training. There will be a class held at St. Andrew on Tuesday, August 31, at 7:00 PM in the Cafeteria. If you are not able to attend this meeting, there are many offered throughout the Archdiocese during the upcoming months. If you have any questions or need to know when and where another class is offered please call the Religious Ed office (393-0140) or the Rectory (393-2334).

SUMMER KICK-OFF POOL PARTY

St. Andrew the Apostle Parish’s Family Life organization is planning a pool party to kick-off the summer. The party is from 6:00 – 9:00 pm on Monday, May 31. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

Congratulations to our newly elected Pastoral Council Members: KEN CONRAD, JORGE CONTRERAS, and DEBRA GUIDROZ. Ken and Debra will be serving three year terms and Jorge will be serving a two year term. Thank you to all who ran for these positions and for all of our parishioners who voted. The Pastoral Council is very important because its purpose is to serve as a planning and advisory board to the Pastor and to aid in serving the needs of the parish. The Council shares in the decision making process by assisting the Pastor in determining and evaluating the parish vision, mission, goals and objectives that improve the quality of life in the community. If you have any questions or suggestions for our parish, please feel free to contact any of the current Pastoral Council Members. ELECTIONS

The Pastoral Council and the School Board will be holding elections for the 2010-2011 term on April 24th and 25th after all masses. Biographies of the candidates will be included in the bulletins for the weekend of April 17th and 18th and are also available on the attached flyers. Each parishioner is encouraged to vote for three new members for the Pastoral Council and three new members for the School Board. Please remember to vote!

LENTEN SCHEDULE – (see flyer)

ADORATION AND STATIONS OF THE CROSS – March 26; Adoration at 7:00 PM followed by Stations of the Cross 7:30 PM

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL #9107 FISH FRY – KC’s hosting their annual Lenten Fish Fry’s at Cafe Archer starting February 19th. Plates of fried fish and fried shrimp will be offered for $8 per plate. Included are french fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. Gumbo will be $3. Each week a special dish will be offered as well. White beans with shrimp on February 19 and March 19. Jambalaya and fettuccine will be offered on other dates. Beverages will be offered for purchase as well as desserts. Fish Fry’s will also be held on Feb. 26, Mar 12, 19 and 26. Take out orders will be available at 4:30 pm. Dine in hours 5:00 pm till 8:00 pm. Please come out and support our KC’s and all the wonderful things they do for our church parish and the community. LENTEN MISSION – given by Deacon Harold Vincent – March 8 , 9, & 10 – 7:00 PM in the church. The theme will be “Blessed are you”. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered on Wednesday, March 10th. (Lenten Mission Flyer)

Vigil Mass: 7:00 pm December 31

Holy Day Masses: 8:00, 9:30, & 11:00 am on January 1. There will be no evening mass.

BLESSING OF EXPECTANT MOMS

December 27 will be the Blessing of Expectant Moms at the 9:30 am Mass, sponsored by the Family Life Committee. All expectant Moms will be asked to come up to the front of church for a short blessing and a small gift from the Committee.

Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe – Dec 13th

Saturday, December 12 is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. At the Sunday, December 13th, 9:30 AM mass, we will add a little Hispanic flavor as we begin to highlight the rich diversity of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. THANKSGIVING DAY MASSES & UPCOMING EVENTS

Masses will be at 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM on Thanksgiving Day. The Rectory Office will be closed on November 26 & 27 for the holidays.

St. Andrew the Apostle will offer two Healing Masses on Saturday, December 5 at 4:30 PM and Sunday, December 6 at 11:00 AM. Anyone who would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick is invited to stay after these masses to receive the sacrament.

The Community Action Committee will have its annual Gift Giving weekend on December 5 & 6. Please bring wrapped clothing for the needy children of our area to the mass. These items should be labeled with size, gender, and type of clothing.

FALL FESTIVAL – NOVEMBER 14TH

Our Family Life committee will be hosting their annual Fall Festival on Saturday, November 14th starting at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. A lot of fun activities are being planned so mark your calendars! There will be a hayride, crafts, games, roasting of marshmellows, a pie contest and much more. The Knights of Columbus will also be cooking some great food! This is another wonderful opportunity for families in our parish to get together and share some fellowship! Hope to see you there! MINISTRY WEEKEND – OCT 24 & 25

On the weekend of October 24th and 25th, St. Andrew will be hosting a Ministry Fair in the Cafeteria after all Sunday morning masses. The Ministry Fair will give you an opportunity to learn how the ministries of our parish help and serve others. Stewardship is a way of thanking God for all the blessings He has given us. TRUNK OR TREAT – OCTOBER 24

The Family Life Committee is sponsoring its Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 24 at 6:00 p.m in the parking lot. All families are invited to decorate the trunk of their car and have candy for the kids. The children will go from car to car Trick or Treating. There will be prizes for the best decorated trunk and best costumes, so be creative! Come join the fun in this safe atmosphere for the kids. (You don’t have to have a child to participate in the trunk contest. Trunk or Treat
